Chambray and Florals

Chambray is one of my FAVE fabrics to wear. It’s such a great light weight fabric that can easily be dressed up or down. Just add a casual tee for a dressed down look or a nice blouse for a dressed up look. Today, I went with a semi-casual look with a nice blouse and flat sandals.

What better way to style a chambray skirt than with a floral top? I’m loving the daisy prints this summer! I especially LOVE the modern daisy print on this top. It gives the look a lil modern edge.

Turquoise jewelry is pretty much ALWAYS my go to jewelry in the summer. It’s such a great neutral that will go with SO many looks. I LOVE how the turquoise in this necklace just pops against the black and daisys in the top.

The On Weave Sandals by mark are the PERFECT compliment to the black in the top. I’m loving the weave detail on the toe and heel. Then the t-straps add such a fun feminine detail too. They remind me of the gorgeous shoes in the movie “The Notebook” that I swoon over, just without the higher heel making them an easy all day shoe.

Florals and Polka Dots

I LOVE mixing up the prints, so I couldn’t help but put this floral top and polka dot skirt together. The key is to make sure the prints aren’t competing with each other. For me, I do this by making sure one of the prints is in neutral colors like the skirt. Then I added color with the florals in the top. The black and white windowpane print in the top also adds another bit of print and helps tie in the black and white in the skirt. Then the print on the sides of my platform shoes added a touch more of print. Altogether I have 4 prints going on in the look, but they all compliment each other, rather than complete so the look is in harmony.

I wore this outfit to church and had a lady say to me, “flowers and polka dots huh? I guess that’s in these days.” Keep in mind this lady usually compliments me on my outfits, I guess the print mix was just a lil too much for her. I actually doesn’t bother me when people comment on my outfits. If I like them and feel good in them, that’s all that matters to me. Like they say, to each his own.

Pink Gingham and Florals

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you’ll know my LOVE for mixing prints. I guess I just love the fun visual interest it adds to a look.

Today I’m mixing a pink gingham button up with a floral skirt. The pink in the top perfectly compliments the pinks in the floral skirt so they just look amazing together! I love the abstract florals in the skirt.

If you remember, I got this skirt at a steal deal at Walmart last Spring for just 3 bucks!!!! True Story!!! It’s from a brand that the local Walmarts in my area used to carry called Bella Bird. Unfortunately they no long carry it. 😦 Bad move Walmart, bad move! This was actually a great lil boutique style brand that greatly upped the Walmart clothing image. At least I got myself this great lil skirt (plus a few other pieces) before they decided to pull the line from the store.

2014 Spring Fashion Trends

Spring is officially JUST around the corner, so today I’d decided to talk about the year’s spring trends. Though you might not plan on wearing ALL the current fashion trends (I know I don’t), it is helpful to know what they are. That way you can decide which ones work for you and which ones don’t. Freshening up your current wardrobe with a few of the current fashion trends will keep you looking fresh and current.

This year’s spring fashion trends are: crop tops, pleated skirts, shirt dresses, floral prints, collared shirts, and pastels. The trends I decided to work into my wardrobe are floral prints, collared shirts and pastels.

2014 Spring Fashion Trends

Accessories

Accessories are the easiest and least expensive way to work the current trends into your wardrobe.

1. I’m really not one for floral prints, so I thought this cute floral print scarf would be a good place to start to get me used to the idea of wearing florals. I love the mint color mixed with the florals. This scarf works in both the pastels and the floral trends. I found this scarf at Payless.

2. I’ve actually had this pastel necklace in my wardrobe since last spring. I was excited to find out that it would work into this years springs trends (as if I really needed a reason to wear it)! I found this necklace at mark.

3. I love that this scarf has a subtle floral print. It’s a great way to work in the florals without a strong floral pattern. This scarf is new this season at mark.

Tops

Another way to update your current wardrobe is with tops. It’s best to check your current wardrobe before shopping to see which colors would work best with what you have already. Don’t be afraid to mix the pastels with the more vibrant colors already in your closet.

4. I found this basic pastel tee for just 6 bucks and since purples are one of my FAVE colors, I decided it would work great to work a pastel purple into my wardrobe. A basic tee is so versatile because it can be dressed up or down. I found this one at a local boutique called Torey’s Trends.

5. I wasn’t sure about wearing a floral top till I came across this one on Poshmark for just 9 bucks! YES!!! 9 BUCKS!!!! I like that it incorporated the floral and collared shirt trends. Plus it has two of my FAVES, polka dots and chambray!

6. And finally, I like the idea of being able to create several outfits with a cardigan, so I went with a pastel pink one because it would work with other colors already in my wardrobe. I found this one at another local boutique, Bella Me.

Be sure to stay tuned to see how I work these trends into what I already have in my wardrobe.
