Holiday Styling Tips: Winter Wonderland

Holiday Styling

The Holidays are here and if where you live is anything like where I live, then it’s SUPER cold and you have LOTS of that fluffy white stuff they call snow. This makes it the perfect time for Alicia, from over on the blog Word of Alicia, and I to share our winter styling tips. So get yourself a  hot cup (or warm if that’s what you prefer) of hot cocoa, put your feet up and settle yourself in for some great reading.

So here goes my tips!!! 🙂

1. Wintery Color Palette

The easiest way to create a winter look is by using a wintery color palette. Try colors like whites, greys and light blues. White represents the white snow of course, grey represents the grey stormy skies and blue represents the cold, cold winter air.

2. Throw on Some Faux Fur

What better way to stay warm this winter than with a lil fur around your collar. The “make me plush vest” by mark has the perfect amount fur around the collar to keep you warm and cool. It’s even lined with a soft, short fur lining to keep your whole body toasty warm.

3. Add a Pair of Booties

A pair of great booties are always the perfect way to finish off a look. Booties are definitely the thing to be seen in these days so you can’t go wrong with them. A grey pair would go great with the “make me plush vest,” but since black is what I have in my closet, that’s what I went with.

The whole look comes together nicely and the colors work really well together. It’s just an overall great way to create your perfect wintery, holiday look.

Holiday Styling Tips: Sparkle

sparkletips

For this edition of Holiday Style Tips, Alicia from Word of Alicia and I are sharing tips on adding Sparkle to your Holiday look!

Sparkle is one of the things I think of when I think Holidays. Twinkling lights, shiny silver and rich gold all add to the sparkle of the Holidays.

A Sparkly Icy Holiday look with shiny silver and sparkly glass stones is perfect for the Holidays. It can easily be done in a few simple steps.I

1. Start with the Sparkle

Add a lil Sparkle by pairing gorgeous sparkly jewelry pieces with a light wash chambray button up! The Ice Cold Collar Necklace and Icy Gaze Bracelet by mark are PERFECT for creating sparkle for the Icy look! They both have clear and sapphire-colored glass stones along with silvertone metal. The light wash color of the chambray really makes the sapphire-colored stones pop!

2. Showcase the Sparkle

Make the sparkle the main focus of your look by pulling your hair up into a sock bun. I cheat and use a form I found while on a shopping trip to Walmart to create the bun. I never could quite master the bun using an actual sock! The form makes creating the bun a WHOLE lot easier!

3. Keep the Icy Feel

Continue with the icy feel by adding a pair of white denim jeans. To protect the white jeans from the slushy, snowy ground, add a tall pair of brown riding boots.

4. Add a Pop of Pattern

Create a lil visual interest by adding a pop of pattern with a leopard skinny belt.

“Tis’ the season to sparkle brightly with major statement sparkle like the mark. Chain Reaction Necklace.  Showcase your statement sparkle piece.  Do that with a solid color base and a neckline that highlights the piece.  Finish off your look with more sparkle, then more sparkle, and then even more sparkle! (try the mark. Sparkle On Top Headband and mark. Opulent Charm Heels)”

Holiday Styling Tips: Traditional Holiday Colors

tipspsholidaycolors

For the second edition of Holiday Styling Tips, Alicia from Word Of Alicia and I are sharing tips on styling Traditional Holiday Colors.  If you need a lil refresher of our first Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid, click here.

Reds ands Greens are usually the first colors that come to mind when you think of traditional holiday colors. If you look at the color wheel, these two colors perfectly compliment each other, but you don’t necessarily have to go with the true red and green for them to compliment each other.

The inspiration for my Traditional Holiday Colors look comes from the nontraditional Holiday décor in Lime Greens and Bright Reds! I LOVE the trendy take on the traditional colors.

Lime Green And Red Christmas

1. Think Outside the Box

Think outside the box with nontraditional shades of the traditional Holiday colors of Green and Red. Think of Lime Greens mixed with Bright Reds.

2. Create Balance

Balance out the look by pairing the bright colored top and scarf with a neutral black bottom and a cognac bootie.

 3. Add More Visual Interest

Add additional visual interest by wearing a black pant in a texturized jacquard fabric. The damask pattern in the Night Gaze Jacquard Pants by mark are perfect for the Holiday Season and beyond! They’ll take your basic black pant to a WHOLE new level.

Alicia’s Styling Tips: “Whether it’s red or green, pick one color and go all over, accent with the other.”

Everything Goes ShirtDress

“Make your holiday impact by wearing traditional holiday colors by going bold in one color and accenting in the other.  To keep your look more modern and less crazy cat lady, go with a classic shape, like the mark. Everything Goes Shirtdess.  The classic shirtdress cut in all over green is the perfect dress for holiday.  Accent it in red jewelry, shoes, nails and lips!  Yes beauty counts when accenting in traditional holiday colors!”

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

PlaidCollage

It’s the Holiday Season again and time to start thinking about what you’ll be wearing to all those Holiday events and parties. To help you out, Alicia from over on the blog Word Of Alicia and I have teamed up to bring you our Holiday Styling Tips. We’ve chosen four different themes to share with you over the next two months. We’ll each be styling a look around each theme and share our styling tips for our look. First up?! Plaid!

1. Go subtle with the plaid by layering

Holiday Plaid

Plaid is one of those prints often associated with the Holiday Season, especially a red plaid. You can easily add a hint of plaid to your Holiday Style by layering a plaid button up underneath a sweater or sweatshirt like this Effortless Edge Sweatshirt by mark. By layering it underneath, you get just enough plaid to show your Holiday spirit and avoid the lumberjack look (which I actually don’t mind when styled correctly). All you’ll need to do is fold your collar out the top of the sweatshirt and unbutton the top 2-3 buttons, then unbutton and roll up the cuffs of your plaid sleeves over the cuffs of the sweatshirt for more peeks at the plaid.

2. Add a lil edginess

Holiday Styling Tips Plaid

The zipper detail on the side of the sweatshirt is perfect for adding just a lil edginess to your look. Exposed zippers always add a feeling of edginess! Unzip it just a lil to let your plaid underneath to peek through for another hint of plaid.

3. Make the plaid stand out by pairing simple accessories

Holiday Styling Plaid

The main focus of this look is the plaid, so to make it stand out, keep your accessories simple. You can do this by adding a long pendant necklace like the Circle Around Necklace by mark. Then add a couple stacked rings and a leather like wrap bracelet similar to this Bold Texture Wrap Bracelet by Avon.

4. Keep it casual

Holiday Plaid 2

To keep your look casual, complete it with a pair of medium wash distressed denim jeans and a pair of dark brown riding boots. A medium wash distressed denim jean has more of a worn look that gives it that casual feel. Brown boots take on a casual feel when paired with the medium wash distressed denim jeans.

Alicia’s Styling Tips:  “Go bold with a statement plaid piece, but anchor it with a neutral in a dressier fabric, like satin”

“You can easily wear a bold plaid piece, like plaid pants, by anchoring it with a neutral. Dress it up for the holidays with dressier fabrics and some sparkle, like the mark. Blaze a New Trail Blazer.”
